A New Chapter Begins

It’s been a little while since we last shared an update—and what a summer it has been. From many hopeful days to many difficult nights, Ashley and I are so thankful for all the thoughts and prayers from our friends and family throughout this journey.

When we first opened up about our adoption story earlier this summer, we believed we had found an amazing opportunity to grow our family. Since then, we’ve learned a lot—most of all, that waiting is hard… very hard. It’s even harder to walk away from situations you had so much hope for. Through every challenge and decision, we’ve tried to stay focused on His plan and trust in His timing.

After a tough couple of months, we refocused and continued to pray for guidance. In September, we were invited to attend an adoption recruitment event. If you’ve ever seen the movie Instant Family (IMDB), you’ll have a pretty good idea of what this looks like. (If you haven’t, it’s a great one for your next movie night!) These events are organized by counties to connect children in foster care who are ready for adoption with potential families.

We went in with open hearts—excited, nervous, and hopeful—and were so blessed by the experience. Spending time with kids who simply want love, attention, and permanency was incredibly humbling. One kiddo in particular stood out, always staying close by and eager to share their excitement about every activity.

After the event, we had the opportunity to learn more about them. While we’ve been through this process before, this time felt different—probably because we’d met them in person and saw their personality shine.

For the past two months, we’ve been waiting again—but this time, because we were selected as a potential match! At the end of October, we received the incredible news that the committee chose us as the matching family. That means we’ll be able to bring this amazing kiddo home and provide them with a loving, permanent family.

Over the past few weeks, we have officially accepted the match and prepared a welcome booklet to be shared with the child. While there are still several steps before permanent placement, we will begin planning visits and respite time in the very near future.

We are beyond excited, incredibly thankful, and yes—a little anxious too! The waiting still feels endless at times, but now it’s filled with joyful anticipation as we prepare for this next chapter.

Getting Ready

We’ve been busy getting ready—from moving our home offices to the newly finished basement to passing our state’s safety audit. Of course, there are always things you can’t plan for until the moment comes, but we’re doing our best to be ready.
